Super Sprayers has been insulating homes and commercial buildings in Kitchener since 2018, driving in from our shop on Macdonell Street in downtown Guelph. The run along Highway 7 and the Conestoga Parkway takes about 30 minutes in normal traffic, so a Kitchener estimate is rarely more than a few days away. Kitchener's housing tells the story of a manufacturing city that kept growing. Double-brick homes near Victoria Park and Mount Hope date to the early 1900s, postwar bungalows fill Forest Hill and Stanley Park, and the subdivisions of Huron Park and Doon South have filled in the southwest over the last 25 years. Each era loses heat in a different place, and the insulation plan has to match.
The city also has something most towns don't: old factories turned into lofts and offices, like the former Kaufman and Breithaupt buildings downtown. Our installers are CUFCA certified, WSIB covered and follow the CAN/ULC-S705 installation standard, and we also handle the thermal barrier coatings that converted commercial space often needs before an inspector will sign off.
Every era of Kitchener housing comes with its own weak spots.
Many early 1900s homes here are double brick with plaster walls and balloon framing, where stud bays run from basement to attic. Solid brick walls have no cavity to fill, so injection foam only works where a framed cavity actually exists. We check with a test hole before quoting.
Homes from the 1950s and 1960s often have a few inches of attic insulation and unfinished basements. Some attics still hold vermiculite, which must be tested before anything is disturbed, as explained on our asbestos and vermiculite page. Sealed and topped-up attic insulation is usually the biggest win.
Homes in Huron Park, Doon South, Williamsburg and Laurentian West tend to have builder-grade basements with half-height blankets. Owners finishing a basement get the best result from closed cell basement spray foam applied before the framing goes up.
Kitchener's industrial past left the city with solid brick and timber buildings that now house tech offices, lofts and restaurants. Converting them usually means insulating roof decks and exterior walls that were never meant to be heated, while respecting fire separations between tenants. Exposed foam in these spaces needs a thermal barrier coating.

Local detail: most of Kitchener gets natural gas from Kitchener Utilities, the city-owned gas utility, rather than Enbridge Gas. Program rules can treat gas customers differently depending on their utility, so check your eligibility for the Home Renovation Savings Program before you book work you plan to claim.
The City of Kitchener generally requires a building permit to finish a basement, and the insulation and vapour control are inspected before the drywall goes on. Closed cell foam at the right thickness counts as the vapour barrier, which simplifies that inspection. We supply product documentation for your permit file, and you should confirm current requirements with the City's building division before starting.
